The Falls of Zeus and the Baths of Aphrodite. The gorge is exceptionally beautiful. We enter it next to the Orthodox cemetery with white marble graves.

The European long-distance route E4 starts in the village of Litochoro and reaches the village of Prionia in the heart of the mountain at an altitude of 1,100 meters. It takes 5-6 hours to complete its entire length depending on speed and for most it is a moderate, though not overwhelming, challenge. The reward is a huge variety of wonderful landscapes, virtually untouched by human activity.

The Enipeas river

The key element of the trail is the Enipeas River.

Cold, fresh water pours down from the mountains from the springs of Prionia and cascades down to the foothills of Mount Olympus, creating waterfalls, deep pools, and branches and forks where you least expect them.

Sometimes the trail rises high above the river, other times it runs along the water’s edge, sometimes crossing the other bank with wooden bridges. Braver hikers will take a dip in the crystal-clear pools, although swimming for more than half a minute is truly heroic.
